Water quality is an important and yet relatively neglected area of laboratory animal science. There are no set water quality standards for rodent facilities other than to provide clean potable water. The Code of Practice for Housing and Care of Animals Bred, Supplied or Used for Scientific Purposes1 limits the guidance to ‘Uncontaminated drinking water shall always be available to all animals’.
